Last time we prepared the tools necessary to make Tsukuri obi and divided it into three parts, "Tare","Te" and "Dou".
Did you already cut your obi?
This time I'm telling you how to sew "Te" on "Tare".
1. Cut the padding cloth
You can see a padding cloth (in this case, white one) at the cut section of "Tare" and "Te".You have to cut the edge. The width to cut is 2 cm.
Sorry😢
I forgot photographing. So I show you the photo of the cut section of Dou.
Dou is folded in half, but both basic structures are the same.
2. Fold the open edge inside and make an margin to sew
The edge should be folded inside. The width is about 1cm.
3. Do "Honguke" and close both edges
If you don't know what is "Honguke", please click this.
🙆 You can use a glue for crafts to close these edges.
4. Sew "Te" on "Tare"
That's all for Today. Most of what to do has been finished😉
If any question, please give me a comment.
Next time I will complete Dou. ⇒ 3st: How to make Tsukuri obi.
Thank you for your reading!!
(2019/01/13 Updated) I added the picture and explanation of the direction of Te.
4. Sew "Te" on "Tare"
You have to reverse "Tare" (the back side: there is usually no pattern) and then have to confirm which the upper side of Te is (See the lower photo).
Attention!! The direction of Te is very important. (referencing to Dou) |
When you find a set of lines (or a line) like golden ones in the left photo, the edge opposite to Tesaki should be fixed above them (or it).
When you cannot find any line, "Te" should be fixed about 9-10cm away from the edge of Taresaki.
⚠Don't mistake the lower side for the upper side!!!
If you have clothes pins, please use them in this step.
Finally you should sew "Te" on "Tare" as you like.
This stitches are not visible when you wear a kimono.
Please don't sew the outer side.
I think it is OK to use a glue together.
😭Be careful not to hurt your finger when pushing a needle.
Please use a thimble.
That's all for Today. Most of what to do has been finished😉
